What is emo? Emo is a state of mind. It is a style. It is a way of life. Emo is an expression of one's self. When you are emo, you are free to show your emotion. You are poetic and sensitive. | The term emo was once used to describe a type of music that was emotional punk. Now the term is used to describe a group of people who listen to emotional music, write poetry, wear black, and are often quiet and keep to themselves. You can be many ways and still be emo, but you should identify with other emos musically. Check out some emo bands and get to know others so that you are not so alone. Do not dress emo just to look cool. If you are fake people around you will feel angry and hurt, and will call you a poser. Get the look right if you want to be called emo. To be emo, wearing loads of black eyeliner is a must! Your hair should most likely be black, but other colors are accepted. Do not label yourself emo unless you fit the description or atleast listen to the music. Below are people who appear to be posers for different reasons. |

Middle left, the girl is obviously a poser and changes her looks to go with whatever group she hangs out with. She appears to be someone who would stab you in your back as soon as emo is not the "cool fad". Also her hair and clothes are a fail. She is a "weekend emo".
Bottom Left, these two girls are so fake, especially the one in the grey hoodie. Not emo!
Top Right, the girl is trying too hard. Her hair is the wrong shade. She has the look all wrong. She is totally fake. Also she's making a surprised look but she is taking the pic on her own. It might look cool if she actually fit the emo look.
Middle Right, this guy just became what he thinks is emo. He barely died his hair black a few days ago and decided to try to look emo. He is still not even considered emo, he's just emotional at this point. He does not fit in the emo genre even though he is posing with his gun slightly facing himself. It just looks dumb, but he is not emo. I have insider knowledge.
Bottom Right, this girl is fake. She is trying to take the stereotypical scene pic with emo wannabe hair, but her hair is a total fail. She's a fake. She should atleast fix her hair right, wash her face, and put some makeup on. Why would she even post this pic on the internet??? She is so fake.
